Cataract surgery increasingly intersects with glaucoma care, requiring eye care providers to recognize and manage intraocular pressure (IOP) changes that may occur during the post-operative period or as part of a combined surgical approach. This course examines the clinical relationship between cataract extraction and glaucoma management, with emphasis on post-operative IOP elevation, risk stratification, and evidence-based treatment strategies when pressure rises following surgery.

Participants will also explore the role of Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) performed in conjunction with cataract surgery, including an overview of commonly utilized MIGS procedures, their mechanisms of action, and appropriate patient selection. Speakers

Marc R. Bloomenstein, OD, FAAO is a 1990 graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles with a degree in Biology. He received his optometric degree from the New England College of Optometry in 1994. After graduation Dr. Bloomenstein finished a residency in secondary ophthalmic care at the Barnet Dulaney Eye Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He received his fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry in December 1998.

Currently Dr. Bloomenstein is the Director of Optometric Services at the Schwartz Laser Eye Center in Scottsdale, Arizona and President of MRB Eye Consultants. Dr. Bloomenstein is on the editorial board of Primary Care of Optometry News, Review of Optometry, Optometry Times, Modern Optometry, Optometric Management and a frequent contributor to other various optometric journals.

Dr. Bloomenstein served as the Chairman of the AOA Continuing Education Committee and served on the board of the Ocular Surface Society of Optometry (OSSO), as well as a founding member of the Optometric Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Society (OCCRS). Dr. Bloomenstein has served as the President of the Arizona Optometric Association, Legislation Chair and President of the Board of the Arizona Optometric Charitable Foundation. Dr. Bloomenstein has delivered over 1500 invited lectures worldwide and serves as a consultant to numerous industry-leading pharmaceutical, biomedical and information technology companies.
Mark Dunbar, OD, FAAO has been a member of the optometric staff at the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for over 35 years and currently serves as the Director of Optometric Services. Dr Dunbar is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and is a founding member of both the Optometric Glaucoma Society (OGS) and the Optometric Retina Society (ORS).

Dr. Dunbar serves on the Editorial Boards for Review of Optometry where he wrote the monthly column "The Retina Quiz" for over 20 years. In 2021 and 2022 he was named as one of the "Top 150 Optometrist in the Nation" by News Week Magazine's annual survey.
Steven Ferrucci, OD, FAAO is currently Chief of Optometry at the Sepulveda VA Ambulatory Care Center in North Hills, CA. He is also the Residency Director at his sight, and a Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry/Marshall B. Ketchum University. Dr. Ferrucci has lectured and published extensively, with a special interest in Diabetes, Diabetic Eye Disease, AMD, OCT and Fluorescein Angiography.

He is a fellow in both the American Academy of Optometry and the Optometric Retinal Society, as well as Past-president of the ORS and the Founding Chair of the American Academy of Optometry Retinal Special Interest Group. He also serves on the editorial board for several optometric journals, as well as on the advisory board for some of the premier companies in eye care.
Carolyn Majcher, OD, FAAO, FORS is a Doctor of Optometry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Optometric Retina Society. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from Salus University and completed an ocular disease residency at the Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Following completion of her residency, Dr. Majcher served as Chief of the Retinal Disease Clinic and an Assistant Professor at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry for 8 years. In 2019 she joined Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry where she serves as Director of Residency Programs and Professor.
Jerry Robben, OD graduated from NOVA Southeastern University College of Optometry in 2009. He is currently the Chief Optometrist and Director of Clinical Research at Bowden Eye & Associates in Jacksonville, FL. He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Midwestern University, College of Optometry in Glendale, AZ and Chicago, IL. He serves as a founding member to Dry Eye University and is the owner and executive director of 90 Days to Dry Eye educational series.

Dr. Robben has served on multiple industry advisory boards, lectures nationally in educational and promotional settings and is a primary investigator overseeing numerous clinical trials and research studies ranging from dry eye, neurotrophic corneal disease, Sjogren's Disease, presbyopia medications, glaucoma, contact lenses, surgical outcomes and devices. He serves on the Executive Board of the Preservative Freedom Coalition.

He is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Dry Eye and Ocular Surface Disease, and he is a loving husband and a proud father of two young boys who both play baseball, football and swim team, which occupies every single bit of his time outside of his professional career.
Mark Schaeffer, OD, FAAO serves as Clinical Excellence Captain at MyEyeDr in Birmingham, Alabama, where he practices full-scope optometry. In addition to his clinical work, he lectures and consults nationwide on ocular disease and contact lenses. He writes for multiple journals on patient care and the optometric industry.

Dr. Schaeffer is a Founding Member and Vice President of the Intrepid Eye Society, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Alabama and American Optometric Association, and the Contact Lens and Cornea Section. Dr. Schaeffer earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from University of Georgia, his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry, and completed a residency in Ocular Disease at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.
Eric Schmidt, OD, FAAO is the President of Omni Eye Specialists, headquartered in Wilmington, North Carolina and a Founding Partner of KeplrVision, for which he also serves as Assistant Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Schmidt completed his undergraduate studies form the University of Illinois and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He completed a Residency in Ocular Disease from The Eye Institute of PCO and a fellowship in Glaucoma from the Scheie Eye Institute in Philadelphia.


Dr. Schmidt is the Immediate President of the Optometric Glaucoma Society and was recently named one of the Top 250 Innovators in Optometry by Primary Care Optometric News. He is an adjunct professor at various schools of optometry and is a frequent contributor to optometric journals. He is the author of the text book Clinical Procedures of the Lids and Nasolacrimal System and lectures internationally on glaucoma and other ocular diseases.
Jessica Steen, OD, FAAO, Dipl-ABO is an associate professor at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry where she serves as Director of the Glaucoma Service and as an attending optometric physician at the College’s Eye Care Institute. Dr. Steen teaches the courses in glaucoma and ocular pharmacology at NSU. Dr. Steen also serves as the Primary Care with Emphasis in Ocular Disease Residency Coordinator. Dr. Steen graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science and completed her residency in Primary Care with Emphasis in Ocular Disease at Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Steen’s main clinical interests include glaucoma, retinal disease, neuro-ophthalmic disease with an emphasis in medical and surgical management. Dr. Steen’s research interests are centered on artificial intelligence applications in the management of glaucoma. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and is Past President of the Palm Beach County Optometric Association.
Pam Theriot, OD, FAAO is the Clinical Director of the Dry Eye Relief Center at Lusk Eye Specialists Her undergraduate degree was earned at Rice University and her doctorate of Optometry from the University of California at Berkeley.

In 2018, she wrote the book "Alleviate Dry Eye". In 2021, she joined TFOS Lifestyle Workshop. In 2025, she delivered a TEDx talk about the importance of eye exams while living in a screen filled world. She is the dry eye columnist for Optometric Management magazine.
Christopher Wolfe, OD, FAAO is a graduate of Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry. While in school, he served as president of the American Optometric Student Association, where he represented over 6,000 members.

He is a past chair and current member of the American Optometric Association's State Government Relations Committee and the Legislative Chair for the Nebraska Optometric Association.

In 2013 and 2015 he was awarded Young Optometrist of the Year for the Nebraska Optometric Association. In 2016 he was awarded the Optometrist of the Year for the Nebraska Optometric Association and the Young Optometrist of the Year for the American Optometric Association. In 2014 he was awarded Political Keyperson of the Year for the Nebraska Optometric Association and Alumni of the Year from Skutt Catholic High School.

Dr. Wolfe has a passion for education. He is the founder of EyeCode Education and Practice Performance Partners, a company specializing in clinical and billing education, compliance and revenue cycle management. Dr. Wolfe is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. He also has special interests in therapeutic scleral contact lenses to correct visual distortions in patients with corneal diseases. Dr. Wolfe is an avid runner, pilot and most of all, he enjoys spending time with his wife Jaime, daughters Ryan, Paityn, Camryn, Logan, Maisyn and sons Lincoln, Deacon, Benton, and Bohden.
Mary Beth Yackey, OD joined Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI) in 2004. She provides patient care at the Blue Ash, Ohio and Edgewood, Kentucky offices. Dr. Yackey is a provider of Optometric Services and is a member of the Vitreoretinal team. She enjoys co-managing pre- and post-operative patients. Her practice emphasizes eye diseases such as cataract, diabetes, macula related conditions, vascular disease of the retina, and urgent eye care. As a part of her optometric training, Dr. Yackey completed four rotations with an emphasis in Ocular Disease, Specialty Contact Lens Fitting, and Pediatric and Special-Needs Populations.

Dr. Yackey recruits patients for various research projects. She is involved in teaching and educating Optometry and Ophthalmology Residents and Fellows. She is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry for treatment and management of ocular disease. She currently holds active Optometry Licenses in Ohio and Kentucky.

Dr. Yackey is active in teaching optometric continuing education classes. She is also active in the community and gives numerous presentations on the importance of eye health to local elementary schools. Dr. Yackey volunteers by giving eye exams at The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation Roselawn Eye Clinic.
